Babies in prams accompanying older siblings on the school run are twice as likely to be exposed to harmful air pollution in the morning than in the afternoon, a new study has found. Based on this study it was found that the worst areas for infants to be exposed are bus stops and cross walks with traffic lights. The chemicals causing this would be ultra fine particulate matter (PM 2.5-10) which is essentially the pollution of the pavements when having lots of cars drive on them. Why does this subject matter? well a recent WHO reports say that 570,000 children under the age of 5, die every year from respiratory infections. Most in which are caused by either second hand smoke and air pollution. How do we fix this problem? maybe we should use less harmful chemicals when making the pavement for cars to drive on, as well as we could have different tires that cause less damage to the roads so the pavement doesn't loosen as easy.
