Being vegan means that one does not consume animal meat or products. Many people go vegan because they believe that it is benefiting the animals, ones health, and ultimately the environment. However according to this article, "Going cold turkey on animal-based products may not actually be the most sustainable long choice for humanity in the long term". These scientists believe that the most environmentally friendly and health conscious diet is one focused on plant based with some type of meat source. On average a normal US citizen needs more that 2.5 acres of land each year to support their diet. That is extremely detrimental to the environment and needs to be reduced significantly.
So why not go vegan? it will reduce that acreage amount to almost .5 vs 2.5. Well at a global view going vegan will effect the environment negatively, because it was the only diet that used no perennial cropland at all, and, as a result, would waste the chance to produce a lot of food. http://qz.com/749443/being-vegan-isnt-as-environmentally-friendly-as-you-think/

Urban sprawl is the migration of a population from a densely populated city to a rural/suburban area. This is not a recent trend its been going on for a long time, however cities and suburbs are becoming overcrowded. This is a problem to the environment because as cities and suburbs are taking over land that belongs to wildlife. Because of this generations to come will have less biodiversity. Infrastructure also adds pollution into the sky.
To reduce the issue of urban sprawl it should be suggested to downsizing the population. That however becomes a controversial subject, because should the government be able to control how many children you are allowed to have, or should that be outlawed. Ultimately, though if we do not think of the long term effects there will be huge effects on the populations society as well as the environment. http://www.conserve-energy-future.com/causes-and-effects-of-urban-sprawl.php |
